Who We Are

The Ohio Local History Alliance (formerly the Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums) is a network of local historical societies, history museums, archives, libraries, genealogical societies and historic preservation groups throughout Ohio involved in collecting, preserving and interpreting Ohio’s history.

Mission

To encourage an appreciation and understanding of Ohio’s heritage by assisting and recognizing local historical organizations in their efforts to collect, preserve and interpret local history through a network of historical organizations.

OLHA provides the educational programs and assistance that members utilize to advance in the field of public history.

Collaboration

Partnership and collaboration are a hallmark of all OLHA efforts as it seeks to leverage its resources with those of others and to foster collaboration among local historical organizations.

OLHA strives for excellence in all it does, embodying professionalism in its operations, ensuring high quality in its programming and materials, and elevating the skills and abilities of all member organizations, whether staffed or volunteer.

OLHA leads its members in expanding their relevance to the diverse communities and audiences they serve, working to include, inspire and reflect Ohioans using the history of their own communities.

Advocacy

OLHA will be a strong, dedicated voice for the importance of history and for local history organizations, ensuring that history remains a vital part of life in Ohio.

Outreach

OLHA will continually strive to reach organizations throughout Ohio and listen to their voices in order to provide services that assist them in carrying out their mission.
